...been to see 2 films the last few days. The films were very different but did have one thing in common; they both were visually great to watch.

The first one was A Scanner Darkly, based on a graphic novel and the way it was filmed (of the film was processed) made it all look like a comic. I am sure the technique has some posh name, but it escapes me now! Despite loving the way it looked, and some good dark humour, I was not really interested in the story, Perhaps I did not understand it fully, or just kept predicting certain aspects of it, or perhaps I just don't like "look how bad things are in the future" pessimistic type films - in fact I don't like any other films of that type.

Then yesterday I saw The Cave of the Yellow Dog, a Mongolian film about a nomadic family. Lovely big wide shots and very long unbroken takes give it a really relaxing feel, the plot moves very slowly, sometimes not moving at all. Really relaxed me after a horrible day at work, but only watch it if you get a chance to on a big large screen, on a little TV there would be nothing to really get excited about!
