Controversial Jesus Night...

...The other day LoveFilm sent me the DVD of The Last Temptation of Christ, Amazingly I have never seen this film before so I settled down early evening to watch it. I then checked the TV listings and noticed that about the time it would finish (and it's a long long film!) The Life of Brian was about to begin on TV.

Has anyone ever watched these films back to back before? It is odd to compare and contrast them, both were (and still are if you read the IMDB message boards) very controversial, and still banned in some countries. I suspect the reason some Christians don't like these films is because they both "Humanise" Jesus. In both films he makes mistakes, thinks the wrong thing, is reluctant to do what he thinks God is asking of him. Perhaps most Christians prefer the approach of the preacher in the vision of Last Temptation who does not care about the reality of the man Jesus... "My Jesus is much more important and much more powerful."

But then these issues have been discussed since the Arian debates of the first few centuries of Christianity, and if Christianity continues another 2000 years will no doubt be discussed then too. Scorsese and Python dont have the monopoly of controversy on this issue!

First serious post of 2007 out the way now!
