...I feel I am a very liberal and progressive person, change does not disturb me as much as it does other people, and mostly I cope very well with new ideas.
Sometimes though things take me off my guard, I find things are not as they should be in the places that seemed to be untouchable. One of these instances was when Mark and Lard left Radio One to go their separate ways, another was when they renamed all the schools in Exeter so I no longer know which is which...
Another happened last Friday, when we were in Exeter Central Library. Ivonne was trying to track down a certain book in German, which led us to speak to many of the staff in the library. They varied from the slightly grumpy middle aged lady to the pleasant and ever so helpful lady in the children's section. But the shock came on the main desk, when trying to check the books out.
The lady there was exceptionally pretty, very young, and wearing a very low cut dress. My foundations were shaken, she should not be working in a public library, this is all wrong! She could be a danger to old men who might have heart attacks on the spot, she might draw in the "wrong type" of person to the library, she is a distraction from all these lovely books, who should get all the attention as the library is all about them.
It still annoys me now, had I seen her in the street, or n a pub she might not have gotten a second look, but the context was all wrong, she was out of place. I have a good mind to write to Devon Library Services to complain...
