Odd evening...

...Last night was unusual, we went down to Exmouth on a rather packed train, and had a curry in the Weatherspoons pub down there, which was remarkable vaule for money (lots of curry, rice, 2 popadoms, 2 naan breads, drink - £4.95), and very nice! Then went off to the pavillions to the gig.

Support band were on first, they were very bland and boring, although I said to Amanda that one of them sounded like someone we know, who used to be in a band in Exeter. They get to the end of the gig and walk up the auditorium to their friends, and suddenly the lead singer greets Amanda, and it is in fact the person we thought it sounded like!

Its a real shame that it did not sound better, because we used to really enjoy her music. Things change I guess.

Anyway, then Cara Dillion, came on, and I must say I was rather disapointed with her music. She has a good voice, and she sang some more traditional songs, so I should have really liked it.

I can't put my finger on why she is not as good as someone like Kate Rusby or Eliza Carthy (she is better looking than either of those though!), Perhaps it was the venue, which is like a typical 70's town hall, or perhaps because her accent obscures the lyrics, or perhaps because she sings the traditional songs in a poppy way, and the pop stuff in a bland way. I really am not sure.

The question is do we give her another chance when she plays our favourite venue in Exeter later in the year??

Anyway, then we had a panic on the way home when we thought the last train was not going to turn up, but it was just late. Got home half past midnight, and crashed into bed.

Song stuck in my head - In the Middle of the Night - Billy Joel [Edit - In fact I think this song may be called River of Dreams, sorry.]
