So after a year on one type of benefit or another I get a temp job which ends up being permanent.
It's a strange but well known fact that when you are a temp you're alienated from office politics but as soon as you sign on the dotted line then the gloves are off - in fact the very next day you're left wondering whether you made the right decision.
Not only that but as soon as you're permanent work starts being dumped on your desk with the comment "we didn't want to trouble temps with this but your predecessor used to do this..." It's then 3 months down the line when it finally dawns on you that they didn't and would regularly tell the dumper where to stick that work.
By then, of course. it's too late.
It's also after you sign your life away that you discover that you're working with a jobsworth of a supervisor - the type who follows guidelines and procedures to the letter, even when they are not in writing.
Let's face it, guidelines are just that - guidelines. There has to be some measure of flexibility for goodwill - "you scratch my back, I'll scatch yours" sort of thing.
But no - this is a jobsworth to the 9th degree.
Still - I've recently stirred the waters and ruffled a few management feathers so I'm now "troublesome" (what's new?). Then again I say what I think - and it's usually because things are a mess.
Apart from that - I've worked in worse places.
And I do like the people I work with.
