Kiss of life anyone?

Did I tell you I'm now an official first aider?

I went on a 4 day "First Aid for Work" course last week as part of my employer's Health and Safety splurge and an incident in August which highlighted the need for more first aiders on site.

I must admit it's something I've always thought about doing, I'd never got round to it. Having work pay for it is a bonus, especially as the certificate doesn't belong to them but to me and is valid where-ever I work so long as I'm covered by "company" insurance. (not to self - stick that on your cv!).

So I spent 4 days learning recovery postion, CPR, bandaging, what to do if people have asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, broken bones, bleeds - and it's not as easy as it sounds!

I managed to get through the course despite my asthma causing me immense problems trying to get rescue breaths into Resus Annie, which resulted in me getting tearful cos I thought I'd fail because of it.

But people rallied round and helped me to find a comfortable position (apparently having a good sized chest is a disadvantage as well) and encouraged me and when it came to the practical I was able to get every breath to count!

Let's hope I never have the occassion to do it in real life.
