OK I thought I could manage it - just rig up one mike for speeches for a friend's surprise 40th party and set up the CD and mini disc players so there could be some music.

Ha - should have know better. Found out that someone was expecting dancing and had rigged up party lights. Well it didn't really turn out that sort of party anyway so phew...but stlll.

The kids who came tore round our church like wild animals - had to keep telling them not to keep jumping off the stage; leaving plate of food and full cups of drink on the floor (where they were running); to stop playing with the lights; and no we are not turning the computers on.

Where were the responsible parents? Gassing away to each other completely oblivious to the chaos their little darlings were creating; completely ignoring what their kids and allowing them to run around as if it was a race track.

Not only that when you did match child to parent they became annoyed that their conversation was interrupted to deal with bumps, bruises and tears. Grrrrrr

In the end it all became too much for me.

My fault.

I should have left an hour before I finally did. I should have said "sorry - can't cope any longer". I should have said "No".

Then again I don't like letting anyone down.
