Jumping to conclusions

I found out last night that a mission group are going to be sleeping on the floor at our church for 2 weeks.

That's fine, apart from the fact that I'm having my birthday party in the middle of it, and I booked the church months in advance.

Stupidly I only talked to landlord last night, as he is the one pushing for this group to stay (being a very staunch evangelical, Jesus is the only way, let's get out on the streets and convert everyone persuasion).

Through him I found out that my party was ending at 11pm. I wish someone had told me.

Anyway, I fire off an email to my vicar complaining that I felt pushed out by this group, especially as I'd booked the church.

Luckily I bumped into him and his wife at lunchtime. I moaned about the time - but apparently there is a limit because some groups outside the church have abused the hire terms and they have sometimes had to turn up at church and turn them out because of complaints. Fair dos.

We've compromised - maybe put on quieter or slow tracks after 11pm, tidy church and then hit my place for more drinking & fun. I told him to ignore the email, and apologised. I must remember to get facts from them first rather than my landlord and landlady.

I have said that the mission group are welcome to join us - especially if they dress up in the 60s & 70s gear. However, I get the feeling that they will have shock and horror that we will be having drinking and dancing and rock music in church. That's apparently their problem (quote vicar).
