Went to Hanwell carnival yesterday. It's one of the smaller ones in London and quite parochial - which is nice.
They end up in the park down the road so I trotted along to see what was going on. They mainly have small stalls run by local fundraising groups, a fairground for little kids, live music and a showground with, what can I say but a right old mix of events. This year I spotted classic cars being displayed and salsa dancers.
Evening saw me at a friend's for a BBQ and taking charge of the salads. Funny how men who usually avoid an oven somehow seem extremely happy to be standing in the midst of smoke burning sausages.
Landlord, landlady & family came - even though it was Lord's day (they celebrate a Christian version of Sabbath through their community). Landlord was the most enthusiastic about going, which surprised me. The children were surprisingly well behaved - and I passed favourable comments on to parents that had been made after they left.
Hayfever has been hell today - pollen count very high. Must go and take more antihistamines. Ugh.
