Spending more and earning nothing

I went to get my eyes tested today.

I'm short sighted but I also need reading glasses and it's a pain having to swap them to either read a book or see whether a bus is coming - which could have disasterous consequences if I was reading abook in the middle if the road. But I digress.

Being on benefit seems the right time to go to the opticians - well so I thought.

I got the eye test for free, and things really hadn't changed that much but because I use a computer when w*rking I do need what they call an "intermediate" pair - which would mean juggling 3 pairs of glasses.

Nothing for it but to go for varifocal lenses.

However the really cheap ones have a very narrow range of vision, which means that they are as good as useless (so why do they produce them I wonder?). So the minimum price of a good varifocal lens with wide vision is just over £100.

Then you have to pay for the frames - and I noticed they'd stop doing a good range of the really cheap ones so that as another £85.

Then they tell me it's a buy 2 get 2 free deal - but the catch is I can't get the 2nd pair as varifocals, so I have to choose between changing my glasses so I can see people or my reading ones.

Being on benefit I did get £54 off but.....it will still cost me £140 (thank goodness I w*rked last week)

Oh well - my main glasses will be purple so at least that's something!
