Not how things were planned (part 1)

Saturday and I head into Winchester to meet mother who has gone before me because she wanted to go to the bank. On my way out I take out her keys from the front door and put them in my bag to give to her later. She'd obviously forgotten I have my own set.

We meet as arranged, have coffee and go to M & S to get food for Sunday/Monday/Whatever.

Please note - when I say get food my mother can make a portion for one person last 2 days. My brother's partner once described mum's fridge as "having less inside than an anorexic's".

I digress.

Mum heads home and I head to Cathedral refectory because in a moment of rashness I posted on the Ship that I'd meet people there for lunch if anyone was interested. No-one was - but then again the main family who wanted to had emailed me earlier in the week, but after I'd posted, to say they'd made a mistake and had double booked.

Rather than sit on my own I go for a wander, grab some sandwiches & water from M & S, and sit on the Cathedral green with a book.

2pm I go and see if anyone is waiting to join me on a "guided tour". Luckily someone is there, and with her daughter. After a bubble blowing session we head to the Cathedral - me giving my version of history, explaining how stained glass windows are made, explaining why there are so many chapels, that you cannot go up there because they are getting ready for a service (Festal Evensong to celebrate St Swithun's Day - patron saint of Winchester Cathedral) etc.

We get to Jane Austin's gravestone and I get asked "what have you got in your bag?"

To prevent tears I sit down and carefully start to empty out the contents...mobile phone, purse, credit card wallet, my keys, my mother's keys....

Oh shit
