Not how things were planned (part 2)

What do you do when you realise that your mother could be locked out of her house?

The first thing I did was to call her on my mobile, just in case she had some keys at a neighbour's house and she'd been able to get in.

No answer.

I start to panic - although I know mother would have found somewhere to go. She'd have found a friend and be sitting feet up drinking tea and moaning about her daughter.

Luckily it's been a hot afternoon so the people I've shown round the cathedral aren't too worried about the "tour" being curtailed.

I head to the bus station and as I get on the bus the phone rings.

"Did you call me?" asks mother.

"Yes, are you at home?"

"Yes, I got the keys off (neighbour) - but I'd just popped out to get some milk."

I could swear at this point but I don't because mother would only have a go at me about "unladylike language".

"I found your keys" says I, "you'd left them in the door and I meant to hand them to you."

"I've been through my handbag 3 times looking for them" moans mother.

Next time remind me not to be "helpful"
