Some time ago I wrote about my decision to become an explorer in the Community of Aidan and Hilda. Well the introductory pack came through the other week.
One first glance I began to panic - what the hell would I be letting myself in for? I couldn't like to that sort of lifestyle - I'd fail at the first hurdle (like getting out of bed in the morning for a start).
Anyway I read it again and it isn't as bad as it seems.
You work out your personal way of life with a "soul friend" (spiritual director). This covers all of the 10 areas in the "Community Way of Life". You design the plan to fit your life style, where you are already on your journey of faith.
This plan then develops as you move forward - so if some things have been easy you make things more of a challenge, but if you feel you can't do things you discuss why and find ways of achieving that aim. It could be that something in your life has changed or than you set too difficult a goal to start with. It meets you where you are.
Now all I need to do is find a soul friend. It doesn't necessarily have to be someone with a Celtic Christian background, but they must be empathetic to the aims of the community, and must either be in ministry, a counsellor in Holy Orders or recognised as gifted in this area of being a spiritual director.
Do that's the next stp -and I've set my vicar on the case.
