I like meeting people - especially at pubs on hot summer evenings when it's cooler outdoors than in.
The pub garden (if you could call it that) was almost under the Croydon flyover so there was the constant hum of traffic from above interupted from the occassional screech of brakes or sirens (but fortunately not both).
It was good to meet up with new and old "shipmates" - much discussion on a variety of subjects and gossip about a variety of people.
I had a couple of pints of the summer ale (nicely chilled) but because it had been too hot to eat that quickly made me drowsy so I settled on pints of Tigglets for the rest of the evening. (Half lemonade, half soda, dash of lime and plenty of ice - invented by the man himself, Tigglet that is).
The not so joyful but about the meet was the cost of a cab back to a friend's house - black cabs are a rip off, but still safer than the unlicensed mini cabs. You take your choice.
In many ways I'd rather be safe...
