It seems I'm not the only one to have succumbed to casting a clout before May is out. I am threatening to get my winter woollies out again and put the heating back on! Pah.
Bizarre conversation took place at supper last night, and I am proud to say I reacted calmly, and in a most grown up fashion. It was pointed out to me that an emporium, which goes by the name of a good British coin, in the largish shopping centre was selling packs of music manuscript books, in exercise book form, cheaply. Much enthusiasm was expended in telling me about this, and there was great emphasis on the word cheap. "Music manuscript paper, as you buy it, is expensive." I was informed.
Now, how I didn't explode on the spot is only by the grace of God. Bear in mind, some of our household income is currently earned through my ability as a musician. I have been a self-employed music teacher for some of my adult life. I don't actually get through a lot of manuscript paper, (I think I last bought some two years ago, and probably about four or five years before then.) but I do need it, for church and for school. I need reasonably decent quality A4 stuff that isn't going to disintegrate when I'm furiously rubbing out various scribbles and errors... that will go into the A4 files I keep of music related to church/school. I need paper that is a decent size so I'm not turning pages every ten bars or so, so I don't need cheap, smaller than A5 little books, I don't need photocopies of print outs from the internet. Flipping heck, this is genuine need, not want. I should not be justifying this to anyone.
I calmly remarked I was sorry it was perceived as an extravagance for me to need a basis tool of my trade. "Oh, of course you need it, but I thought I'd tell you about this cheap....." which trailed off into nothing as I glared, and repeated, "I need what I need, and this is a basic essential tool of my trade."
I changed the subject, as it's the only thing to do when bees in bonnets are buzzing about cheap options!!
Maybe when I was casting clouts, I should've thrown them in this direction to prevent such a silly conversation in the first place.
