Organising stuff is a pain. There's a group of us mums who all met doing baby yoga and the like a couple of years ago when our babies were between 0 and 1. We don't see much of each other any more because most are back at work, some have had another child, others have moved away and we're just all very busy. The babies were all born in June/July 2007. Last year, 7 of them had a joint birthday party (which we attended but declined to be involved with organisationally - we did something separate later on as Munchkin's birthday is the end of July - nearly 7 weeks later than the earlier ones in June, which is when the party was held). This year one of the crew started an e-mail discussion about whether to do a get-together on a smaller scale and hassle free (ie catered). I did some enquiring about various possibilites that had been suggested and in doing so unwittingly set myself up as organiser. I don't have a problem with that, but I am just finding it very frustrating. Rather than getting closer to a compromise on what to do we seem to be diverging (and there are only a few people contributing to the discussion - the rest are simply keeping quiet or sticking with 'happy with anything'). I am very close to just saying 'forget it, we'll do something separate' again. Argh!
Sorry about that - just needed to vent a bit. I am sure it will all work out and be great because we're all fairly good friends.
In other news we went swimming (as usual) this morning, and Munchkin swam a width on his back! It's the first time he has ever willingly lain back in the pool without being forced or screaming a lot and he just kicked all the way from one side to the other and then, beaming in between, did it again!!! Obviously he had swim discs (a bit like armbands) on, as he always does. I am feeling very proud of him. Pumpkin is also loving swimming although he's very little yet. He can't fit armbands yet; they are too wide meaning he can't bend his arm when he has them on. Our instructor feels we should wait till he fits them better. The fact that he can't float doesn't stop him trying to swim though - he just lunges off into the pool with arms and legs going like the clappers. He's quite difficult to keep hold of!
Tomorrow I am meeting up with the above-mentioned crowd of mums for breakfast in a little cafe. It's our semi-regular little bit of time off to catch up. I just hope that we don't end up spending the whole time going over this wretched party business...
