We were in Loudwater Tescos this afternoon concluding our shopping, very much aware that the store was closed and we should be making our way to the checkouts. As we were in the last aisle it didn't seem to be too much of an issue until a young person came along and said 'can you go to the checkouts now' we responded that we were aware of the time and would indeed be at the checkouts in plenty of time to be calculated for the 4.30 closure. This wasn't good enough for the person who, when we proceeded towards the final item of desire said 'the checkouts are that way' pointing behind us. I responded 'yes but the Australian red wine is that way'. She helpfully informed us that Amersham is open until 6pm does this mean-
a) We should be wheeling our trolley to Amersham to get checked out
b) We should restack our items in the wrong places to create extra work and then go through the whole process again in Amersham
c) We should go to the checkouts short one item and then drive to Amersham to get the bottle of red wine?
I suspect that because they are a 24 hour store they don't often get the pleasure of throwing their weight around in such a way and took advantage of the fact. Oh and if she had addressed me as 'love' as she did the much older lady in the next aisle I really would have flipped. She should be grateful for small mercies.
