Welcome to the New year (for the church) and to a time of preparation and expectation. I try to use Advent as a time to consider God and his gift of his Son, although I do get more excited as time goes on. I suppose when you work in a school, that's inevitable, especially in the final week when we break up! There's still so much to do, and I believe that you can show your faith through the kindness and generosity of giving (presents, or of donations to those who have less) and hospitality. The thing is to keep these sentiments all year, and not just at Christmas, which I know is not easy!
O God,
as light comes from this candle,
may the blessing of Jesus Christ come to us,
warming our hearts and
brightening our way.
May Christ our Saviour bring life
into the darkness of this world,
and to us, as we wait for his coming.
Amen.
