I am slightly lost for words this year! With all the big names going out through illness, injury or defeat, the ladies singles could go to anybody. I have to say I was pleased that Serena Williams got beaten. I recognise that Serena is a phenomenal player, but I am pleased that someone else will get a chance to go for the titles, and it was a surprise because I for one had expected her to swan her way through. It is deflating to see her only play a few tournaments and destroy the field each time, while others slave away on the tour all year and get nowhere near her. I hope this will now show something more competitive as far as she is concerned now. She can be beaten! I think in the men's that Novak Djokavic will be in the final. Of course, I would like it if Andy Murray was there again. That would be great.

I really love doubles. I find doubles the most entertaining form of the game, with the ball constantly being bought back into play, and quick-fire rat-a-rat volleys at the net between all four players. Last night we saw the one and only John McEnroe and his brother Patrick, play McNamara and McNamee in the Seniors Invitational Men's Doubles. It was played with humour, but also showed that none of these men, even though their most successful years were in the 1970s and 80s, have lost their ability or their competitive edge. I loved it. If I can, I'll be watching doubles matches on the outside courts, on the extra red button channels!
