I'm going to have to be careful here because this has made me annoyed. I know everyone is quoting the book of Timothy in support of stopping women bishops, but quite frankly I think everyone needs to grow up! Then again I am very liberal. I would have no issues with women bishops, gay clergy or gay marriage. I have to be careful, because I work in a Catholic school and I make sure I differenciate between my personal views and what I need to say to the learners. I do feel very saddened and very disappointed. Maybe this shows that there will always be a gulf between groups with in the Church. That would be awful, but it is beginning to look that way, whether the issue would be this or homosexuality, which is causing consternation in the African church more than the issue of women. Considering we are all supposed to be here for the Glory of God, it is really difficult. There are other things I could say about what I've read, and what I've seen on TV, but some of the comments I've seen from people actually make me really angry, so I'm not going to comment. I know I'll say something I'll regret. :(
Addendum: 1 Tim 2 chp 2 vs 12 "i do not permit a woman to teach or have authority over a man. She must be silent". Adam came first, so women (thanks to Eve) are those who are tempted, the weakest. They can only be raised from such lows by childbirth. This is the arguement that a man preaching in our town centre, gave to a friend of mine (who is mentioned in the post above this one), from my church, where we have had three consecutive women vicars. Needless to say she gave him a piece of her mind! Go girl!
