When I was about 5 or 6, I can remember visiting my paternal grandfather (God rest His Soul; he died in 1993) every Saturday evening for tea. The highlight of the evening was watching JIm'll Fix it. I loved that programme so much! I knew he also did lots for charity, but I don't think I really understood how much until I watched the tribute programme tonight. I was saddened when I heard of his death. Behind the quirks and the costume like fashions, was a man who existed to use that fame and renown to help others. £45 million raised for charity! I don't even think the philanthropy of someone like Simon Cowell (whatever you think of him, he has done a lot for charity) has matched that! Sir Jimmy received his OBE and his knighthood for his charity work. Both were richly deserved, but they didn't stop him doing more and more. He will be very much missed.
