Today we are thinking about Nigeria
Languages: English, Creole, Hausa, Yoruba, Ibo, Fulani
This country has a long history of tensions between Christians and Muslims. The country is roughly divided into two with the Muslim majority living in the north and the Christian majority in theĀ south, with a more or less even mix of the two in the middle "belt".
The northern states have introduced shari'a law in their territories although officially the country is a secular state with freedom of religion. Christians in the north are finding that they are being required to comply with shari'a which of course presents difficulties for them personally and tensions between the two communities generally.
