Kyrgyzstan is the country we are thinking about today.

Languages: Kirghiz, Russian, Uzbek

Kyrgyzstan is one of the least restrictive of the Central Asian countries in terms of religious liberty. Christianity is sometimes seen as the religion of non-indigenous Russians, Ukrainians and Germans. Yet over recent years the number of known Kyrgyz believers has been growing steadily.

However, ethnic Kyrgyz who convert to Christianity often face severe pressure and threats from family and local communities. They may not bury their dead in local cemeteries. A new religion law is being planned by the government and the concern is that this when passed will make Kyrgyzstan as intolerant of Christians as some other countries.
