Today's country is India

Languages: Hindi, English, many local languages

According to tradition, the apostle Thomas brought the Gospel to India and there has been an established Christian community since at least the 2nd century. Christians now number approximately 6% of the population. Many of these are members of the lowest level of the caste system.

You may already be aware of the violence perpetrated against Christians in Orissa State (since 2007) where many people have been forced to flee for their lives into the jungle.

India's constitution guarantees religious liberty but some states have introduced "anti-conversion laws" to dissuade people from leaving majority religions.
