Hello (bad) boys! It's the girls in blue*....

I have just read an article which informs me that the German police are keeping abreast of protective clothing for their officers. Female police officers are to be issued with bullet-proof bras. The problem, apparently, is that if a bullet impacted a bullet-proof vest, the internal scaffolding in a standard bra could cause injury to the wearer.

There are apparently four designs to choose from and the ladies may choose three to complement their lingerie collection. There is no danger of the bras being confused with the owner's ordinary undergarments as the bullet-proof ones have been thoughtfully provided with an elasticated comfort strip which has “Polizei” written across it - just in case there was likely to be a mix-up between the lacy beribboned versions and the more functional items. The bras are available in sizes 70A to 95E (that's 32A to 42E in UK sizes) which should cover most vulnerable points but there is no word on what the more amply endowed policewoman is to do when confronted by a trigger-happy criminal. I shall make no suggestions on the subject. I'm sure my gentle readers will have hours of fun thinking up their own solutions.

* Poetic licence for cultural differences...the German police uniform is actually a sort of green/khaki top half with beigey coloured trousers.

Meine Damen und Herren, you may be wondering what the German for bullet-proof bra is. I haven't actually seen the phrase but think that “schusssicherer Bustenhalter” might be a possible solution.

Wunderbra - so to speak.
