A bi-lingual title to my post....
After a weekend of shimmering performances by British athletes my own association with the precious metal glisters somewhat less.
I was asked to translate a letter. Ordinary request. The letter was signed by someone with a rather amusing name and referred to another character who didn't sound to be altogether genuine. The content was about prospecting for and mining gold. (I'm sorry I can't be more specific but I don't want everyone googling all this and my getting prosecuted for libel/slander/defamation of good character).
The project manager and I had our suspicions about how genuine the whole business is... but perhaps it is just a case of names co-incidentally fitting their occupation.
All that glisters is not gold... apparently Olympic gold medals are not solid gold - they contain up to six grams of gold - the rest is just a pretty colour.
At a tangent: can somebody explain to me why the national team is "Team GB" and not "Team UK"?
