Angolan Christians have suffered much in recent years. When the Communist government came to power in 1975 it vowed to eradicate Christianity within 20 years. There followed much persecution including the massacre of whole congregations by government troops. Conditions began to improve in the 1990s when communism collapsed. The majority of the population is Christian but there is a lack of well-trained ministers, and those that there are have only hand-written copies of the Bible.

Communities are now facing the rise of extremism from other faith groups which involves violence of the most abhorrent nature (so abhorrent, dear readers, that I cannot bring myself to type it out).
