My gentle readers may or may not be aware that I am not one for going to gigs. But last week I broke with curmudgeonly tradition and went to one performed by Urusen. Who? I hear you ask. Well, don't ask me...just google them and find their "myspace" site and listen to them on line. I did and liked what I heard. It's an easy-going sound, sort of Simon and Garfunkel-y but not entirely.
So how does Urusen fit into a) the theme of my blog and b) with the title of this post? Well, the gig was held in the Ancient Roman City's best bookshop (yes, bookshop) which has won "best independent bookshop of the year 2008" award for being, well, the best independent bookshop in the country. I spend nearly all my money in there which is possibly part of the reason it is doing so well having launched only about 3 years ago. The couple who run it are just lovely, lovely people and have great ideas about how to run a bookshop (a cosy fire, armchairs, tea and coffee, funky music, knowledgable staff, a dog, the coolest loo in town) and they had the idea of hosting Urusen in their shop for an intimate evening of music.
As I sat waiting for the gig to start, I wondered how I could weave the event into my blog when one of the singers said "I made sure that I put my German-made harmonicas on one of the German literature shelves". So there you are. His band gets a plug from me for being a) great and b) relevant to this blog.
And it's pronounced "Your-a-sen", in case you were wondering.
