This is another book I read recently in translation. Originally in German, it was translated into English by Carol Brown Janeway.

The central story revolves around a schoolboy aged around 16 and his older lover (36). Part of their relationship revolves around his reading to her in bed and he opens up new worlds to her that she had previously been unaware of.

He, however, is unaware of her world, the world of her previous life and how this will affect her future.

This novel could be considered to be a Holocaust novel but also one which falls into the genre of Vergangenheitsbewältigung (a wonderful word which means coming to terms with and dealing with the past). It is certainly original and unusual and I recommend it.
