I was right about the kitchen

...especially as the blender decided to leak just at the vital high speed whizzy moment. A white t-shirt was not the right choice of attire.

My ramble around the internet to find a non over-sugary recipe for blackberries turned up the following:

POLISH BLACKBERRY SOUP
1 pint ripe blackberries
1 medium, thinly sliced lemon
1 one-inch stick cinnamon
2 cloves
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups cold water
2 cups soured cream
Put all ingredients except soured cream into a heavy pan and bring to the boil. Lower heat and simmer 10 minutes or until fruit is soft. Using slotted spoon, remove cinnamon stick and cloves (if you can find them) and lemon slices. Pour cooked berry mixture in blender and whizz for about 20 seconds. Pour into bowl and cool (approx 1 hour) and chill well (2 hours). Stir in soured cream just before serving.

Approximately 4-6 servings

I couldn't persuade the Lödgerin to abandon her menu of fish fingers, fried potatoes and spinach to join me so I ate alone. And the proof of this particular pudding (as this is what it resembles) was in the drinking: I had two helpings - one with soured cream as suggested in the recipe and the other with buttermilk. The latter gave it a nice marbled effect. If you are following Romans 12:13* it is probably suitable for a posh summer dinner party. Make sure you provide your guests with head to foot overalls. (I imagine it will freeze quite well; I'll try to remember to let you know.)

For those of you wishing to know what "blackberry soup" is in Polish, I'm afraid I can't tell you. Looking up anything on the internet which includes the word "blackberry" is very tricky on account of some pesky handheld device which has hi-jacked the word.

I am going to try another recipe before the berries go mouldy. Report to follow.
