HandyAndy turned up 5 minutes ago. He looked a bit surprised as I answered the door.
HA:What's that ticking thing hanging round your neck?
K: A kitchen timer. I've got a lot to do and I've got about 10 minutes left. Come in!
HA: Crumbs.
A translation tutor of mine used to often say that translating was like sitting an 8-hour exam every day. She was not wrong. There is that sense of panic as you know you have "10 minutes left, candidates!", there is still some way to go, your fingers turn into thumbs in your panic to write quickly, your brain seizes up, you write something, anything and then
the bell goes.
The last thing you want to be doing is answering the door - using up your precious seconds.....
Today's quota done now.....AND re-laaaaaaaax. (Well, sort of. Got to pack and run for a train.... Byeeee!)
