I went to see Die Fälscher (The Counterfeiters) last week. The film is set in WW2 in a concentration camp. A Jewish banknote forger is set to work on Operation Bernhard with other prisoners who had worked in the printing industry before they were incarcerated. The Nazis were planning to flood the British and American economies with forged currency.

The prisoners are faced with a moral dilemma. Do they do the work they have been selected to do and live in the relative comfort of this gilded cage where there is enough to eat and a soft bed to sleep in at night and the hope of outliving the war? Or do they refuse to collaborate with their enemy and face the harsh reality of hell on earth in the concentration camp on the other side of the fence where there is not enough food, basic sleeping accommodation and where the showers release gas, not water?
