On 8 November 1999, I launched off into the big wide world of self-employment and translation. And how have I marked this auspicious day? Well, I checked some Terms and Conditions of Business which I had translated and someone else had proofread to see if I agreed with her amendments, a friend dropped in for a cup of tea, I phoned my Ma-rent (and also had a few words with the Pa-rent) as I had no work in the afternoon, paid this month's council tax and waited for some work to plop into my inbox. Which it didn't.

This week has been very quiet on the work front generally and I happened to mention this to Maggie after homegroup yesterday evening. "Oh you should have said! We could have prayed for you." The thought was appreciated but I didn't mention it because, actually, I'm quite enjoying having a bit of space to do Other Things which I am madly behind on. I'll graciously allow the homegroup to exercise their praying skills when things start looking a bit grimmer - for no work means no pay - and no pay means that Jack the Lass might be getting a bar of chocolate as a wedding present. But then, knowing Jack's proclivity for chocs, that might be just what she wants! No?
