I feel a bit like a prophet calling in the wilderness, or Cassandra, or perhaps I've just been in this area of work for too long. On 19 November, I related a few of the issues faced by the self-employed. [Grateful thanks to ee for the expression of sympathy - it was much appreciated!] I gave the example of an advertising agency which had promised an amount of work to be done in an impossible timeframe this week and predicted that they would not send it to me on time. Well, I wasn't quite right. They sent an e-mail yesterday saying that their parameters had shifted and could I pencil it in for calendar week 49?

The good thing is that I can claim back this Saturday for myself and not have to work. The new set of unknowns, however, is that calendar week 49 (or week beginning 3 December) is a week which is already packed with rehearsals for and performances of Verdi's Requiem. Working in the evenings that week is out of the question - should this project ever materialise.

On a lighter note, my contact in the agency is one Dr Schneemann. Is this a name to be welcomed or feared...will the project she is managing melt into nothing or be part of the seasonal celebrations?
