Before anymore of the year passes without my having greeted you, I should say Happy New Year!
Today is the feast of the drei heilige Könige who visited the infant Jesus. As you know, they turned up at Herod's palace first, thinking they would find him there. According to my visitor stats, a similar situation has happened on Lost in Translation. I have had 8 visitors this month and I have not been "at home" to receive you. I just hope that my readership will forgive my absence and not be heeding dreams concerning different routes!
Many years ago, when I was an au-pair in Germany, three young boys appeared at the front door dressed as the three kings. I can't now remember if I treated them in the manner to which they were accustomed...I suppose they would be expecting sweets or something...I'm not sure. (It would be a rather nice idea if they gave sweets to the householder in the absence of gold, frankincense and myrrh, don't you think?) All I do remember is that I took a photo of them in their costumes which they were sensibly wearing over thick sweaters and jeans (I think it had been snowing). These lads are captured in a fading photo in my album. They will probably be in their 30's now. Because of the photo I remember them. I wonder if they have any recollection of some young English girl making them wait at the door while she went to find her camera?
