Rising to the challenge

TiredandEmotional threw down a gauntlet in responding to my last post. He wanted me to translate “That's not what it says in the EU regulations, you silly little customs man” into Dutch.

I am pleased to be able to give him, free and gratis, the sentence he requires. I take no responsibility for your health or safety should you choose to use it:

‘Dat is niet wat er in de EU regels staan, domkop van de douane'.

(I hope the two Dutch visitors to this blog in the last six months will agree this is correct...)

Much as I enjoy displacement activities such as this, I should make it clear to my gentle readers that I am not going to make a habit of responding to requests on a regular basis. I have a living to scrape and, right now, I am more or less fully engaged in filing my tax return. Besides, it goes against my professional code of conduct to translate into foreign languages. I translate into my mother tongue. Also, I have a feeling that less gentle readers might go too far and ask me to translate into Tagalog, Shona or Blackfoot. In the interests of international harmony, I will have to gracefully decline.
