Kaiserschmarrn is an Austrian dish which resembles pancakes. Or at least, resembles pancakes that haven't quite worked out. If you find this Shrove Tuesday that your flipping ability is not up to scratch, do not despair.
Prepare the Kaiserschmarrn batter as you would for pancakes. Rather than tossing the mixture when it is almost solid in the frying pan, break it up into raggedy pieces, a couple of inches by a couple of inches in size, then add some raisins which you have soaked in rum for approx 5 minutes, cook until the batter mixture is reasonably browned then pop on a plate and sieve some icing sugar over the top. Jam or compote can be eaten with it, as you wish.
Just off to toss a few traditional English pancakes now - I'll let you know if they turn into Kaiserschmarrn.
