Doppelgänger

Yesterday evening as I was battling through my current jungle of translation I decided I could do with a bit of help with a few phrases. So I sent a text message to my friend Sonja in Germany asking her if she might be available to lend her expertise over the weekend. As I pressed send I realised that the message was not winging its way Germany (the number I had used didn't have a German national prefix.) but to another German Sonja who is much more local. I hastily also sent the text to the right Sonja. A few minutes later, the local Sonja replied saying that she would be in the Ancient Roman City on Saturday afternoon and would be happy to help!

Local Sonja had inexplicably dropped off my radar over the summer (mainly I think because she is a student) and, in my panic to get this job done, I had completely forgotten that I had a resource close at hand. I sent a text back accepting her offer of help and arranged to meet in a nice coffee shop by the Abbey. I'm afraid I didn't ever admit that I had sent her a text by mistake!

The "right" Sonja also replied later today saying that she was entertaining visitors and wouldn't be able to help - so local Sonja turned out to be the right Sonja after all. (Now this will get confusing - now I've got two right Sonjas!)

A little silver lining behind a rather large grey cloud. (Oooh, I do like to lay it on thick, don't I?)

And hello again to my Pakistani visitor who has visited again. Do say hello!
