So the post came today with a nice surprise (in as much as I was trying to talk myself out of hoping that it woulc come today): the Guildford Book Festival brochure. Yay.
Anyhow, as if the Bear battle was not enough I now notice that in a blazing battle of the beards I'm on page 31 facing the literary mighty beard of Philip Ardagh on page 30. I think my beard edges it on colour but his definitely has that theatrical swoop thing going on. I'll be there at his show though, big fan of his writing style, as is wife and daughter, which is useful.
Apart from that there's not much on the facial hair side of things to report. There's a couple of good beards going on on other days but primarily people to seem to have very smooth chins this year. Which makes it all the more odd that festival organisers have decided to place two beady blokes on the same day. Surely that means that facial hair fans (I'm looking at you Ollie) will be quite busy that day... Strange but there you go. Maybe it ties in with St Beards day or something along those lines that, as a beard wearer but not beard geek, I'm not fully up to speed on.
It's also very kind of the festival bods to have changed the GBF colour this year to blue, from the previous couple of years orange, so as not to clash too greatly with my hair. That is a very sweet touch and I'm very appreciative of it, as well as the fact that they've put me in the thing at all... I'm still an artist who's snuck into the wordy camp after all.
Anyhow: expect future battles to follow a similar theme I should guess (so that leads us to Paul vs Bards, Beads, Bars and a few others than I'm not sitting near enough to my dictionary to forewarn myself against... I think with Bears and Beards I've started at the right end of the spectrum although the irony is that it would probably be a bead that takes me down when I'm feeling all smug about defeating* Bears....)
Currently listening to: Five Iron Frenzy: The end is here/near. On Distant Shores is possibly the best song ever. Currently playing: Lumines: PSP. Currently socks: Mickey Mouse on grey and black duotone. Currently aaaargh: Workload and stressy waking up at 3am for the past while...
*For defeating read: avoided enough so that possibly we'll all forget about the 'weird' incident.
