Strange weekend on planet Kercal...

... Sigh.. where to start where to start.

Ever had one of those weekends that left you feeling that you'd been punched in the face?

For the past week we've been tiptoeing through the house surrounded by the smell of sick. Last week son boy ate a little too much of what was not good for him and threw up at the tail end of his party. The problem is we don't know if he was sick twice, or whether it was a lingerer, but the smell hasn't gone away with numerous washes and half a can so far of fabreze... And it's getting a bit cold to leave the windows open and the doors open.

Then, yesterday we went off on a visit to see my dad and then we all bumped into his brother and wife. Muchos loud laughing and tall tales later we ended on a classic line that cut like a knife and left us feeling... Hmmm.. what exactly? Don't know. "You're looking quite good.... Considering...." Sometimes we forget what it's like, not having autism in your life, and we accept the strange laughter or the inappropriate games or the accidental signs of affection that others would see as common assault... It was a throwaway line, not funny or unfunny just... Thought provoking.

Then, at church, we found that of the six favoured frogs we only had five and one was at home so, noisily, we were dragged off to go get it mid way through. People are very understanding of things, but I guess we just look good considering... Truth to tell this has been the worst weekend for a while following a pretty tough summer. Sometimes it feels like it's the best we'll get and that the good times will be more spaced out and sometimes it's a relatively simple process to cope and we feel like we'll manage. Sometimes we feel like we've been slapped round the chops by life and sometimes we have been slapped round the chops. Ironically I had a meeting which I went into this week thinking that I might leave one of my jobs to spend more time with the family and in the end opted to stay at the job. After this week I still don't know whether that was the right decision (but it is made now for the time being) so it's back to what we call normal.

And yeah yeah yeah I know that there's no such thing as normal, but tbh there are varying degrees of it and the normal we have is something that bears the caveat: considering...

Anyhow, muchos to do, but brain won't slot into gear. Have to make a plan and decision for Messenger launch gig (like: will there be one, where will it be etc) but at the moment nothings coming, inspiration wise (the original plan has been scuppered slightly, in a much as the costs won't add up and I'm not in a position to take risks. Was aiming to try and bring one of my three favourite bands into the Boileroom in Guildford but that's just not going to happen so plan b is.... Well, that's the trick: what's plan b? Have a vague idea but these things require energy and my internal Col. John "Hannibal" Smith is currently snoozing). Supposed to be writing half a dozen emails and reports and, again, that's not happening so far. Will get onto it soon, but may be tomorrow morning rather than tonight. Tonight I just feel like curling up under a blanket and try to stop myself from thinking to much.

Woo! Cheerful subject matter.

On more positive notes did I mention daughter won first prize in a model set making competition? And now she's been accepted onto a book writing short story thing. TBH that's a complete money making ruse, more than a true competition, but she's delighted and that's good. Bog Draw also coming up soon (two weeks yesterday AARGH!) and that may well be a lot of fun. I hope. Also received a proof copy of an art book I've been doing as a total vanity project and it's turned out quite nice. No idea what I'll do with it, but it's been good to go through my back up CDs with something in mind and some pictures made me smile a lot to revisit.

Righto, time to sign off. Night all. Updates soon as Messenger proof arrive I guess (went to print tuesday of last week - review copies going out middle of this week if anyone's keeping a time line).

Currently listening to: Nothing, which is unusual, normally I have some CD on or other but tonight it's pretty quiet... Currently playing: Mario when needed. Currently working on: Messenger launch party stuff, whatever that may be....
