If you have the wherewithall check out page 3 of the Surrey Ad this week (on sale from today).

Son boy is with wifey at Chessington with one of his school friends and mum and because of that daughter and I went into Aldershot to see my dad. On the way we stopped off to do a couple of other things and got to the train station in just enough time. Cue one of those times when there's only two windows open and a heck of a que and a foreign student who's asking all sorts of questions which automatically takes out one of the windows so there's only one window and no chance in the world that you will make the train you wanted to make...

So anyway we missed the train, daughter was in tears (thinking that this meant we wouldn't see Pa-pa at all now) and we went to the shop to buy a bottle of water and a bag of skittles. I checked out the Surrey Ad to see whether the big book draw was in (of course it wasn't) but the Lantern Festival was in and daughter and niece were in that picture so she was very happy. Got the later train to see Papa and then had a more personal newspapery present for him.

Also bought him a booky present as well: a copy of the My father and other working class heroes by Gary Imlach, in preperation for seeing him on Sunday which I was looking forward to seeing in a very big way as I am a HUGE fan of Gary Imlach, hiw writing and his commentary. Got home to find an answerphone message from the Tourist Information Centre to say that the Sunday lunch thing has been cancelled owing to low ticket sales... Which is very sad. Was looking forward to it in a big way.

Sigh.

Did go to see Ian Rankin speak last night courtesy of kind book fest organisers (I'd been looking forward to it all the way until I went to buy tickets and found it sold out. Gutted. They then gave me (at the last minute) one of the saved tickets in the front row. Nice. Bought the book, enjoying it so far and the talk was as personable and enjoyable as was expected...

Next book fest stop: taking three kids to see Sandi Toksvig on monday then to Piratology... Busy day monday. Wednesday? That's my slot and, hopefully, prayerfully, begfully it won't find itself cancelled as well... We shall see. Current mood on the subject pretty bleack though.
