Socks which have served me well...

So... as an ex-animator there are some parts of the industry that I still keep up with. Close to the top of the list would be the uniform, or at least one part of it, the wearing of socks with cartoon characters on. It's a little known fact that animators try and suss out each others socks to see who's wearing what, which character is most in vogue, that sort of thing*. So, in the interests of historical documentation, probably only interesting to the person typing this, I thought I'd start an online repository of the socks that have served me well over the years.  ((as an aside it always amazes me that people seem surprised that I walk to work. It's a twenty minute walk each way and not an unpleasant journey going past the River Wey and over two bridges. There is a bus, yes, but I'd spend as long waiting for it and then travelling as I would walking to work so seems a no-brainer to me. It does wear the old shoes and socks out, but only over a period of time and the benefits seem a little more positive than saving a sock or two)). Number one in an ongoing series, alongside a top ten chart of my favourite socks for complete accuracy and accountability, are:

Gromit! He's been a faithful friend but the holes at the back of the heel are just not darnable any more. It's time to say goodbye with only a nod here to look back on. Top Ten of socks current are: 10: Dr Solomon's virus killer socks. Not cartoon socks, that said, but the thought was there. 9: Stitch on black fabric. 8: Douglas the Lurpack butter man, yellow on blue with brown outlines. 7: Dark blue two tone Donald Duck on dark blue fabric. 6: Goofy - red character on grey fabric. 5: Fozzy Bear. 4: Alien from Toy Story. 3: Rainbow Goofy bought on sale from the Disney Shop this year. Very cool. ((so good in fact that I went back and bought two more pairs however, for the sake of fairness, they only get one slot in the chart. It's better to take these things seriously)). 2: Grumpy the Dwarf saying 'Do I look like a people person?' and finally, in the coveted top slot. 1:  Pink Panther face on black fabric. Not the best sock in the drawer, nowadays, nor my favourite character but the socks are somewhat more grown up than some of the others and, subsequently, are the socks I wore when I got married and therefore only worn on special occasions. You see? A little slice of romanticism at the end just for people that were reading this and assuming I was completely mad.
