Odd days

So yesterday was Spring Harvest young people groups leaders meeting and I wanted to be there to chat to groups face to face. Was a weird day all told, but not for any reason I was expecting.

Started at 6am, taxi at 6.30, train at 7, connection at 8, next connection at 9.30, last connection at 10. Arrived at the meeting at 11 or so to start the day (ha!) with worship and prayer :) (not ha at the doing of it, ha at the starting of the day). Spoke at 1, hard discussions followed, lots of thinking needing to be doing to work things out creatively which was massively hampered by the fact that, five minutes before I was due to speak, just after lunch, I'd had a text message to say that my daughter'd had to go to hospital after a bad allergic reaction to something.

So, not really the best preparation.

Turns out she had come into contact with some cleaning chemicals at a doughnutting venture which were not properly cleaned away and they had been pushed into contact with skin (others from the group were similarly affected). Cue steroids and things are a little bit more on track. She's slightly better now but well on the mend. SH guys were great though, praying for her at the time and one of the group organising a lift for me to avoid some of the train journey and supplying enough positive chat to take my mind off it on the way back home. In the end just missed one connection as it was so was home only half an hour earlier but still it was an easier experience going down than up.

Apart from that? Hmmmm changes a plenty but have to give it some thought and consideration and will see what the right way round is, but was a tough day, all things considered. Hardest part in a way was the very last bit where I had a forty minute wait, having been mentally busy since 6 am, at 9 waiting for a bus home. The coffee very nearly didn't work... Made it home, just... Then slept like a spud and then, this morning, had to step into a three hour meeting at the arts centre. Now I'm back on book festival stuff. Hopefully that'll go quick and then I can sleep :)

Photos to follow, honest, just need to do them and .gif them up! Soon...

Also, went out to see Gerald Scarfe at the Guildford Book Festival and he was very good indeed. Went out with college tutor friends and was a lovely evening. Spoke to him after and he was... brusque (which didn't bother me, almost the opposite, we spoke and that was cool) but they were moderately outraged on my behalf... Amused me so no harm done, but shame that we'll prob never see him at a Big Book Draw. Then again, maybe that's not the worst thing, although his Hercules stuff is ace so it's not that he doesn't have a rounded appeal... Ah well... Me I like the book draw so hey, if people want to join us then that's cool. If they don't, well, we still have fun anyhow.
