Brief tangent...

Had a friend over for dinner tonight, because if you're going to be busy you might as well be it with fine company.. Anyhow the friend is Romanian and the chat turned to her going home for Christmas. I asked what the Chritsmas dinner would be and the whole thing sounded really interesting, so I thought I'd share...

Starter would be Chicken Soup with Noodles + a very yummy minced pork, rice and vegetable mix, wrapped in vine or cabbage leaves and boiled in spices. The main course would be beef or pork steak, mash and veg, followed by a Romanian sweet bread/Stollen type thing plus other cakes. All helped down with wine. Possibly (I get the impression) too much wine.

Sounds very pleasant. I asked the question because another friend of mine had a Christmas in Poland and had their national dinner... He was surprised when the started seemed to be Beetroot Soup with pigs ears floating in it.. He ate it (because he was in the company of the family of the woman he intended to marry) but left the pigs ears to last.. It was only then that they mentioned that they were a hard pastry rather than meat related. The main course was a huge trout I think he said which again sounds intriguing.. Someone should do a TV show of all this. Christmas meals across the world.

...Or maybe it just interests me I don't know...
