Currently listening to: Marroon 5. Given it for Christmas and enjoy the style of it, if not always the content... Currently playing:
Ah now this is where todays update comes in.. Yesterday was an odd day, the weekend an odd weekend... Pitching for a job atm and that meant a certain amount of doodling around on sat and sunday... Happy to doodle anytime of course, but when it's for a pitch the intensity becomes slightly more than me just picking up a doodlepad and biroing along... (hope I get this job btb - prayers please - because the content of the stories I hope I'll be illustrating amuses me and it would make life somewhat easier... but we'll see...) anyhow, Stephen was also more expressive than normal so the focus was somewhat shifted which sort of kind of led to a couple of uneasy truces between two things I wanted to do... The weekend didn't start off on a high note either, with one of those youth group situations that I can't speak about because it needs to be cleared with relational workers and school authorities and families and the like... Seemed slightly resolved where it was left late friday... but an issue nonetheless...
Aaaaanyhow sunday night had a long standing appointment to meet a mate -one of the best youth group co-leaders we have, certainly in terms of enthusiasm and comittment- to finish the night off with a brief bout of Pro Evolution Soccer 4 on Xbox. What a cracking game it is, absolutely fantata. Pro Ev 3 on PS2 was a step back for me, I nearly always reverted to the better of the series, Pro Ev 2. I have hugely fond memories of playing the game during my lunch hours at DI. Generally I would play Marty, the Art Director and we would have a complete laugh playing. Others in the office played so seriously it became dullness incarnate, but playing against Marty was always a laugh. He'd always win of course (the git), but the joy was in the play rather than the result. Anyhow, got Pro Ev 3 and the fireworks just didn't seem to be there, whether playing anyone else or single player. 4 is a welcome return to form though, definatley on this years Christmas list (based on current spending projections).
So went to the mates place, said hi to his sis, bro and parents and there we are, set up to play. First team of choice was Netherlands, my team of choice in 2, despite the fact they are always terrible in the game (not me you understand) but in doubt I always revert to something orange... Lost 1-0 but DOMINATED the match. Second game lost 2-1 but again that was against the run of play. Swapped to Arsenal (I'm not a fan of any particular team, more a fan of specific players, Henry chief amongst them) because the guy I was playing was and is always a rabid Man U fan (shame, and honest, he is a really nice guy.. Don't hold that against him). First game under the new regime: 1-0 to me. second game, get this a 4-0 drubbing. A complete pulverisation of Man who. Kev thought he'd been hit by a whole SHELF of fake librarian books.. :) Fifth game in and almost time to leave. Goes to extra time, although to be fair my dominance of the match has been slightly less than the previous matches...Goes to penalties. He wins 5-3.
I let him win of course, would have been very bad form to go to someones house and leave them on a crushing defeat...*
...and I hate penalties...
But I did have without doubt the finest goal of the matches.
And I didn't know how to do penalties on that pad in the first place..
But well done Kev! Here's to the rematches. Enjoyed it muchly.
Currently reading: Strange and odd Frank Herbert book I picked up at a jumble sale the other day, plus the latest ish of Edge plus study bible....Soon to start Aftershock by Adrian Holloway, having loved the prequel, Shock of your Life.
*not entirely true, see other excuses. Anyhow, I'm a good loser, honest, I get loads of practice at it :)
