...Ok to review something when you've a: read it out of sequence and b: havent read all of it yet would be silly because I could neither do it justice or might find myself at the mercy of some content that I would otherwise have commented on... So I shan't. But I picked up the last collected volume of Dave Sim and Gerhard's Cerebus in Comics Showcase in London yesterday and I'm glad I did.
Ummed and ahhed over whether I should read (nor least spend limited money on), bearing in mind that apart from say 3 or 4 issues of each collection (I tried! I really tried to keep up with it) I'm still storywise stuck at the beginning of Jakas Story. Anyhow in the end the fortress of my will was captured and the gentle meringue that it contained sank immediatley (that'r right isn't it? Meringues sink?) Actaully it didn't sink fully, otherwise I would have bought all of the volumes... But anyhow bought the last volume and loved it. I can see why some would have complained but it seemed the perfect full top to what for me so far has been a remarkable story. Dave Sim, Gerhard, Cerebus, literature. Love it to pieces and looking forward to one lazy weekend, preferably rainey, when I can sit and read from one end to the other... One thing though, both of the artists seem to be continually apologising for the work ('sorry, we were up against deadlines', 'Gerhard didn't like this page for whatever reason' or the like). If I could say anything to them it would be that no apologies are neccesary. Cerebus was and is a remarkable work. Congrats to them both.
Sigh. wish I'd bought all of the volumes...........
Currently listening to: Nicki Rogers: Feeder Lane. 80% brilliant.Currently playing: Wario Ware.Currently trying to finish: Urban Angel by Andrew Chamberlain. Distracted by Cerebus: The Last Day. Marvellous stuff. The final annotation is 90% read and a powerful read.
