Did youth group on friday as normal. There was a time when the group was of a size that I could get involved more and do things like play in the football tounaments that we run each week... Recently, well, over a period of years but more accelerated this year, the group has grown to a size where joining in is less easy to do.
Anyhow I played footie this week. Ouch. A few years ago I ran a summer tournament for kids on the estate and ended up with a cracked ankle (not broken, not walkable on for a week) for a keepsake. This week I ended up with a huge egg shaped bruise on my leg, covered in craked and broken skin from one particular tackle. Ironically it was the brother of the guy who had demolished my ankle years back. He enjoyed the humour of this. I don't think I was hideoulsy offended either time but could be more comfortable as I sit and type. I was going upload a picture of the injury in a gratuitous attempt to gain some sypathetic feedback :) but the photo's are a little gross having looked back through them.
Anyhow, the message in all of this? Love hurts....I guess. Actually there's no message. Apart from this small fatoid group was 46 kids in four small rooms (groups doubled in size in the past few months in terms of regular attendees) and was a lovely evening.
Only other thing to report is having just finished Heaven Eyes by David Almond. Very intriguing book. Fascinating really. Liked it loads although there are mixed feelings on completing it. But good mixed feelings if that makes sense. I say all of this (in a bit of an unplanned blather) because in betwixt planning Dr Sylver book 2 (november release date still being gunned for but as live becomes trickier to juggle it's becoming an added frown in terms of release date), trying to sell the graphic novel project onwards plus two projects that people have said they'll call me about and so far haven't my mind is being drawn as ever to a new project.
At the arts meet in London (which was ace fun, must add more about this later) we started to mull on a group collation of content in some form or another. Well. we started talking about things that seem undoable if truth be told, but dreams should start big and become something to be scaled (as in climbed) and moulded. I think we have the kernel of a great idea in what we spoke about, time will tell if the many people can start to steer in the same direction. Anyhow we chatted about an anthology style thing and an image of content sprung into my mind. Not saying what it is for the mo because it's still forming in my mind but would say that the influence that Heaven eyes and Cerebus have been over the past few months will be telling. If this anthology thing comes off then it'll start to be seen soon, if not then slightly later. Ideally in my mind the year goes somewhat like this: kids book summer, Dr Sylver 2: November, graphic novel: Sept-Dec with a collected version coming out sometime around Easter next. Tbh these plans seem, today at least, unlikely at best. Sometimes my dreams are big and seem more filletted than scaled (as in skinned or prepared). All of it is doable of course, I think anyhow :) but as ever we'll see.
Currently listening to: U2: How to dismantle my hopes and dreams :)Currently playing: Halo 2 tournament last night. I was ABYSMAL. Practice needed I think.Currently trying to finish: 'I'm asking you nicely' by Es Kaitell and Greg Watts. Was given a copy by Highland books when I was there last to chat about artwork for the CBC stand and so far it's an interesting read. Excellent cover as well..
