In brief: 'my friend wrote that'...

What a cool thing to hear for me.. but I guess you should hear the rest of the story as well...

For the past two years I've helped out at Guildford Borough Councils FISH summer and Easter schools. I've taught art (generally charicature, Manga and graffiti) and helped one to one with the autistic kids... Love it to pieces although it is a very long and wearing day. I always feel shattered at the end of it, but loads of fun, especially seeing kids who remember me from the past year and the ones that always put Charicature down as one of their options.

Which leads me to....

One kid, hasn't been in my classes but I do get the same bus as him home. We've had a couple of nice chats, nothing huge, 'what did you do today?', 'what you playing on the GBA?' that sort of thing. Yesterday, at the end of the day he walked up to me and we said 'hi'...I thought he was just going to leave it at that. Although we'd spoken pleasantly I'd also had a couple of times of having to ask him to calm down at the back of the bus with mates, that sort of thing. We'd also had a small discussion about his choice of musical tastes (he liked ... hmm what was it called... can;t rememebr some mickey take rapper/songwriter it'll come to me. Did stuff on the South Park movie soundtrack including the Uncle you know what song) anyway something unsuitable. So I didn't know what he was going to say.

'I saw someone reading your book at my church' he said. 'Cool!' I thought, he has some contact with a church that's ace! 'and I said "my friend wrote that"' he finished!

HOW COOL WAS THAT! not that an occasionally swearing, obscenity laced song liking, peer group leading cool kid spoke about church in front of his mates as if it was the most normal thing in the world, but that he knew that deep down we were mates, even if we'd not had that much chance to say it, he just knew it! Was amazed.

'which one? I said, a little surprised and pleased. 'the Library of everything book' he replied.

Ba-doom TISH.

'Which church I meant?'

'Stoke' (Yay! Stoke).

We had a really nice chat after that, mainly about his NIntendo DS which he wanted to buy a new game for and asked me what he should get (me I said I liked the look of Polarium, Zoo Keeper, Wario and Feel the Magic the most, but if he liked puzzlers he should get Zoo Keeper or wanted something weird go for Wario...Every time I said a new game he kept saying cool, I'll get that! :) :) Nice to be listened to) and had to run for the bus. everyone seemed sad I hadn't been booked for the week...

Amazing day, really top fun. The three lessons I ran teaching kids art all went fairly smoothly as well. Sometimes blesses just feel really full.

Currently listening to: alison Moyet. hopefully seeing her play live before the month is out YEE HAH!Currently playing: Yoshi's Island on the GBA. Stuck on the last level of level 2 though, which doesn't bode well..
