No good deed....

As if in retaliation for the excellent weekend Monday and tuesday have been real stinkers. Part of that is down to the fact that the job apps I send out mainly go unanswered and possibly unread and part of it is down to the fact that for the most part the pitches I do seem caught in a pause loop that seems to go on forever (although for the most part we're talking weeks here, although some responses have been ongoing and chased from as long ago as the middle of last year...) Part of the problem is that Sylver 2 is an elusive thing, akin to juggling balls knowing that at any point they could turn into flaming hand grenades. Am I worried about it time wise? Well, no, not hugely, although it concerns me how much life gets in the way of writing. Am I worried about it content wise? Yup, hugely. I know what happens in almost all of it, bar one thing at the end which I'm undecided on, but again I'm going into this as blind as I went into book 1... Hmm...

Anyhow, looking for an upturn is all I can say.

One delightful upturn on monday night was seeing Alison Moyet perform songs from Voice and Hometime at the Royal Festival Hall. Regular readers (Hi Mum!) will know that I'm an AM fan of old, but that it was Hometime that started me off on more of a big AM kick. Voice, as a CD is wonderful, but I approach anything from here from a position of love for her voice and of her writing skills, which are very sharply honed indeed. A bit maudlin perhaps on occasion, but again that can fit the mood sometimes.

Anyhow I'd encourage the lot of you to try and go if you could, but the tour is almost over now. A DVD will apparently follow soon and that may well be compulsory viewing. What an absolutely cracking night it was. Started off poorly, in terms of the getting there, but as soon as she stood on stage and lit up the hall with that radiant smile of hers the night started to get better and better. I've resigned myself to the fact that my favourite song from HT will never, ever be performed live (Say it, in case you're wondering) but the songs that were sung were absolute belters. The band that accompanied her did sterling work (and we're talking keyboards, Cello, 2 violins and a viola, bassist, guitarist and a drummer here, no small group to accompany songs as diverse as Only You and Wraggle Taggle Gypsies O!). One person said that some of the audience were bemoaning the lack of disco classics but I saw none of that. The moment the encore was done everyone was on their feet cheering and clapping. Utterly, utterly fantastic concert.

Have just finished another small freelance job for the Diocese, shall post up here once the image is agreed by all and sundry.

Currently listening to: Larry Norman: Sessions, Alison Moyet: the Essential, Superhero: Superhero + Delirious? World Service. Not all at the same time natch. Currently playing: Project Gotham 2, inspired by the lovely piccies of PGR3 from this years E3 show.Current socks being worn: Gollum, black, slightly too small. Currently reading: Emperor: Death of the Kings, or Death the of Kings. Or maybe The Death of Kings, depending on which way you read the text on the front cover. Anyhow I started it off as research for a project that will come a long, long away but it is a cracking read as well... Currently 24 guess: That the main writer was away last week. I mean honestly, how many plot holes? This week hopefully will be good, as they seem to be following a bit of a Star Trek film theme here, but 12 good 12 bad wouldn't necessarily be a good name for a show...
