It's with a small sense.. well, maybe a gargantuan sense of smuggy satisfaction that I can report the success of last nights comedy bites evening at Willow Grange. Not that I had anything much to do with it, it was far too well organised for that. But where it counted I DELIVERED. Oh yes indeedy.
Or to put it another way: Was at a Diocese House meeting a little while ago talking about artwork for the Summer School programme and one of the people at the meet asked if I had any ideas for what they could do for a launch evening. I'm 'down' with popular culture and all that y'see. Music was out for some reason, can't remember why, so I suggested Milton Jones.
Milton Jones, for them what don't know, is a Perrier award winning comedian, a Christian and purveyor of some of the coolest word play and surreal thoughts this side of an Icelandic institution for comedy barmsters.
Anyhow, they booked him, despite not neccesarily having followed the comedy series on Radio 4 (new on due in Sept he told us woo HOO) and there you go. Was a classic evening. Simon Parke warmed us up nicely, nice spin on footsteps especially, but it would be something like me standing up next to Leonardo (artist not turtle) and saying look at me I'm an artist. I am, but there's a sliding scale. SP was good, Milton is a comedy pro, tho'. Simon did do a nice skit on not having his picture in the program (which regular readers will know that I did, under temporal duress) so at the end of his sketch I drew out a quick doodle of him and attached it to his copy of the program... Could've done it during the sketch but that would have been unkind... On the telling of a ginger joke Simon won the night 1 - 0 to Milton though, not that it bothers me that much, although people did look back at me to see what I thought when MJ mentioned the G word.
Anyhow was a top night, congrats to all concerned and big thanks to Simon Parke and Milton Jones.... Guildford Cathedral also has a photo exhibition running at mo' called the F word which apparently is top stuff and well sorth a look if you get the chance also.
Currently listening to: Coldplay: X/Y. Currently playing: Haven;t played games for yonks. Hoping to go onto Beyond Good and Evil soon, which I've always wanted to play but never gotten to yet, and determined to but a Nintendo DS when I start the next job. Current socks being worn: Homer Simpson drinking Duff. Dr Sylver chapter title of the week...: Cold is the throne of a hardened heart. Currently 24 guess: I'll still end up watching the next series, despite thinking the last one was not 'all that'.
